Reindeer racing is a popular sport in northern Norway, Finland and Sweden. Most of the racers and owners are Sami and the races are the highlights of local sporting and cultural events, such as Sami National Day (Feb 6th) and the various Easter festivals. Reindeer racing in this part of the world is a high-tech event featuring carbon fibre skis, full face helmets, and racers that are as light as possible. Distances are short &#8211; a few hundred metres and winning margins are measured in hundredths of a second, with the use of photo finishes and reindeer reach up to 50 km/h.</p>
<p>Tromsø was recently the scene of the Norwegian National championships and ICR employee Philip Burgess took some pictures of the race and the lasoo casting competition and also made a video of the days activities, when reindeer take over the streets of the town..</p>
